Presenter: Lauren Little

Abstract:
The increased demand for career services often outpaces the ability to add full-time staff roles. After our office increased student caseload we knew we needed assistance in providing the same level of service for our old & new students. With our limited budget in mind, the Career Peer Program was born utilizing students as Career Coaches. In this session, we will explore how to build a Career Peer Program customizing it to your needs. Topics will include development of program, job descriptions, hiring, and training.

Full Session Details:
The increased demand for career services often outpaces the ability to add full-time staff roles. Kelley Indianapolis Career Services found ourselves in that very position. After taking on career services functionality for our Evening MBA program (over 350+ students) in addition to the 1,300+ undergraduate Business and Graduate Accounting students we knew we needed to increase our capacity before the start of Fall semester and adding a full-time staff member was not an option. Knowing that our students provide career services advice to their peers in an informal capacity, the idea to create a formalized Career Peer Program to capture that enthusiasm was born. As observed in student panel sessions, I found our students listen to their peers & hold their advice to a gold standard.
